Impacts of high water temperatures

Heat and its consequence, reduced oxygen content in water, may weaken the water fauna and make it prone to pathogens. Also, high water temperatures may locally lead to mussel and fish kill.

Research must be undertaken to determine the effects of a rise in heat discharges – e.g. as a result of cooling processes – on communities in water.
