On the occasion of the German EU Council Presidency, the Federal Ministry of Environment has published a film about the Rhine. The Rhine serves as a good practice example of international cooperation.
The countries in the Rhine catchment have been cooperating for 70 years. For example, fish passages have been built to allow salmon from the North Sea to migrate back upstream to their spawning grounds We are proud of this solidarity.
The Rhine is more than just a river. Acting as a historical, cultural and economic bond, it connects countries. With its many remarkable ecosystems, it is also an important ecological axis for Europe.
Svenja Schulze, the German Federal Minister of Environment, would like to use the German EU Presidency to further strengthen the protection of our nature and its diversity.
