Habitats along the Rhine may be classified in eight groups.

  • Aquatic and amphibious part of the waters
  • Natural alluvial waters
  • Swamps, reeds and tall herbaceous vegetation
  • Greenland
  • Siccous biotopes
  • Alluvial woods in the present overbank area
  • Forests in the former floodplain
  • Other habitats of importance for species protection
