At the invitation of the French delegation and EDF, international experts from the delegations of the countries in the Rhine river basin and NGO representatives took part in a technical visit to the newly operational Rhinau fish ladder on the Upper Rhine in November 2025. This visit provided an opportunity to discuss the innovations implemented by local engineers to solve the technical challenges at the Rhinau site. The specific characteristics of the sites on the Rhine require tailor-made solutions for each location. This fish ladder is one of many examples of France's commitment to biodiversity in the Rhine. It was financed as part of the national investment plan ‘France Relance’ (2020-2022) and the Community investment plan (NextGenerationEU).
