ICPR – International Commission for the Protection of the Rhine

316. Synthesis of national “non-technical” flood risk management measures in the Rhine basin

The ICPR has exchanged information on the so-called “non-technical” flood risk management measures. These measures, also referred to as “non-structural” measures, complement technical flood protection infrastructures (e.g. dikes, flood walls and mobile barriers, retention basins, etc.) and include spatial planning measures and rules, land-use conservation, building protection as well as risk communication.

The current synthesis outlines national differences and commonalities, as well as good practices and challenges related to non-technical measures across the Rhine basin.

The report is only available in German, French and Dutch.
