Cope with low water

The aim of the programme "Rhine 2040" is to mitigate the negative effects of low water in the Rhine catchment. To this end, two sub-goals were formulated, which are to be implemented, among other things, through the measures listed below.

1.  Ensure low water monitoring

• Improve monitoring and consider data on drought and impacts of low water
• Analysis of the future availability of water resources until 2050

2.  Develop international assessment and solution approaches

• Develop common assessment approaches
• Implement measures to promote sustainable water management
• Raise awareness among user groups
• Develop joint assessment criteria and solution approaches, if necessary, draw up a low-water management plan
