ICPR – International Commission for the Protection of the Rhine

Monitoring of the state

The state of the Rhine is monitored from Switzerland down to the Netherlands. The map of the Rhine catchment (below) shows the location of the monitoring sites of the Rhine Monitoring Programme Chemistry.

Biological monitoring and the classification of water plants, algae, fish and invertebrates are also of great importance. Characteristics such as water structure (eco-morphological quality) are included into the investigations.
